Just stayed there this past weekend. Great experience! Friendly staff! Quiet rooms. Convenient location. Loved everything about it. Will definitely come back.

My finance and I came from Chicago to go to the Clayton Art Fair last weekend and stayed at the Cheshire for the first time. William, the very personable hotel manager greeted us and showed us the facility, explaining the recent renovations. We were so impressed by the warm, inviting atmosphere which was enhanced by the original English antiques and artwork. We had a lovely dinner in the Fox and Hound Pub and enjoyed the live music. Our room was well appointed, charming,.and immaculately clean.Every member of the hotel staff that we encountered was very polite and helpful. . We had such a lovely experience that we decided to return to the Cheshire next year for the art fair.

  3. Steve and Linda Bode says:

Spent our wedding night there Aug 8, 1969 and our 5th Anniversary (the day Nixon resigned – LOL). Just celebrated our 42nd anniversary living in Kansas City, MO now. We’re going to have to go back and spend time there again. Wonderful memories.

Our daughter Deidre is to be married on September 24th of this year. When it came time to find accomodations for our out ot town guests our soon to be son-in-law was in charge of choosing a hotel. He contacted Kelly while the Cheshire was in the middle of renovations. She graciously took us on a mid construction tour and thru her eyes we could see what a gem it was going to turn out to be. Kelly has been awesome to work with….she truly loves the Cheshire!! The bridal party will be getting ready at the Cheshire and the photo ops are abundant…we cannot wait. We love it so much even St. Louis residents are staying there for the weekend of the wedding!! Again THANK YOU Kelly….you have been a godsend!!!

My husband and I are so pleased about the re-opening of the Cheshire. When we got engaged several years ago, one of the first things we did was share a bottle of champagne at the Fox and Hounds. We can’t wait to spend many more evenings together in front of the fireplace at our favorite watering hole.

  6. Rick from Clayton says:

Many an evening was spent in the Fox and Hounds verbally sparring with Mark Pohlman and listening to Bill Benson behind the piano. This hotel/pub is a part of my history, a place I thought was lost. I can’t wait to return. Congrats on the renovation!

  7. Dana Marton says:

My husband and I were married in 2000. We had our wedding reception at the Cheshire Inn. We stayed in the Sherwood Forest room on our wedding night. My husband was unable to look at the fantasy suites with me, so my dad looked at them with me instead. He was going to pick out one for he and my mom to stay at the following year for their wedding anniversary. Everyone thought that we were getting married. It was very funny and a little embarrassing! We picked out the suites we liked and decided on completely different ones thank goodness! My parents returned a year later for their anniversary. We are returning 11 years later for our wedding anniversary! How exciting to be able to go back and see all the changes! We don’t live in St. Louis anymore so it is even more exciting. Also we have a little one, so we get a romantic night out just the two of us, with the little one at grandma and grandpa’s!

  8. J.B says:

I worked at the Cheshire and it nearly broke my heart when I was told about the closing. It makes me happy to see the new owners did the classic justice. It is still magical.

  9. Paula and Norman says:

We were married Aug.12, 1967, and had our wedding reception in the beautiful library, with delicious food, at the Cheshire Inn. We stayed in a lovely Bridal Suite that evening before leaving on our honeymoon the next day. Of course we had our 1st anniversary dinner there and enjoyed other meals throughout the years.

We are so pleased about the renovations and reopening, especially since it is happening around our 44th anniversary. We will certainly be visiting on the day of the Open House.

We spent our wedding night (May 3rd, 1969) at the Cheshire. We remember our bellhop sitting on our bed and watching the Kentucky Derby after helping us to our room (and announcing to everyone in the elevator that we were newlyweds). We spent many romantic evenings in the theme suites over the years, and three of our kids spent their wedding nights (courtesy of us) there as well. We’re so excited to have the Cheshire back again. We’ll be there soon!

  11. Beth Spencer Zelle says:

My dear late husband, Dick (Piano Man) Zelle played at the King’s Arm Pub for more than 14 years. Years later, he played at Fox and Hounds, up until just a few months before his untimely death in May, 2010. I met Dick in the 70′s, while I was a member of the chorus at The Muny. A group of us would always go over and “sit in” with Dick after the show. The customers loved our show tunes, and Dick was the most charming, talented man I had ever met. In 1988, twelve years after our initial meeting, we met again at The Cheshire. I began singing with him, and we were married in September 1989. I miss him terribly, but know that the re-opening of our favorite place would thrill him so! I imagine there will be music playing in heaven on your opening day! Best of luck to you, and thanks for the memories!

We spent our wedding night – August 22, 1981 – at the Cheshire, then our 1st anniversary. We are celebrating our 30th this month and would like to stay there again!

  13. Noreen says:

Love the Cheshire! When I was young, my Dad would take us to the Sunday Brunch for Mother’s Day. It was very special. In the late 60′s, early 70′s going to wonderful restaurant with a family of 8 was an event! I can still remember how special we all felt to be at Cheshire. In August of 1971 my husband and I spent our wedding night at Cheshire. This was THE thing to do in those days. The added bonus was we were invited to return on our 1st anniversary and enjoy a complimentary overnight stay. We plan to be at the Cheshire on August 13th to celebrate our 40th anniversary.

  14. Bethany says:

I met my husband when I was 17 and he was 18. He took me to the restaurant at Cheshire Inn for our first date. It was amazing. The food was fabulous. I had the new york strip, garlic mashed potatoes and salad. (I remember because of how great it was!) We returned there every year for 3 years until it closed. We were both devastated! We will be celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary August 2012 and can’t wait to pick up where we left off! We are so excited to see the renovations!

My husband and I were married in 1978. I was 18 and he was 21. We lived in Maple-wood,and would walk to forest park. We would stop in Cheshire to admire the decorations and the hotel itself. We were so excited when it was our walk every weekend. Being young and just starting out we could only wish we could stay a night. Well for our 15 weeding anniversary ,I surprised my husband with a room for the night.I saved for a year, his birthday is march 16,anniversary date is April 15. I scheduled a carriage ride thru forest park and after we came back and warmed up by the fire place. now i had dropped everything off that morning and advised when we get back ,the concierge was to walk by and i was to ask if they still have the fantasy suites and could we see one.our room was to be the last one . it went off great. I had the fisherman’s room ,I did not want the jungle room and give him a heart attack. After each room he kept stating wow,I wish we could stay here. I had a 8 x 10 picture of me when we walked in and a banner. he goes that look like you ,i stated it was and we have the room for the night. we had room service and swam in the pool.we wanted to enjoy every minute of our experience. It meant so much to us and our wish had came true. We just celebrated our 32 weeding anniversary and every time we pass by we think of that night and would love to do it again. I have the pictures to prove what a smile he had on his face. It would mean a lot .

  16. Nancy McGrath says:

Great memories of our wedding night at the Cheshire, and March 2012 will be our 25th wedding anniversary…would love to go back to celebrate!

  17. Rene Reese says:

My Great Aunt, Bette L Woods was the hostess at Cheshire Inn for 30 plus years. The Post Dispatch did an article on her career there. She lived in the apartments behind the Cheshire Inn & would walk to work. While she worked there Ray Gallardo, former owner of Gallardo’s Restaurant worked as a young man.. Patrick Hannon also worked there as a bus boy and then went on to being part owners in Henry VIII, Bevo Mill & Patricks along with other establishments. When we were kids it was always a treat to see Aunte Bette. She would always bring one of the Mrs. Hullings Chocolate Split Layer Cake to share with us. We would always argue over who would get the end of the cake with all the delicious chocolate icing. It would be great to see the Cheshire Inn again redone in all its former glory!! Best of luck!

  18. Pepi says:

My husband and I spent our wedding night in one of the theme rooms in October of 1998. I would like to come back to celebrate our 13th!

My husband, Richard, and I spent our wedding night at the Cheshire Inn on February 6, 1971 and returned the next year for our first anniversary. I will never forget how gorgeous and majestic we thought the hotel was. I was so sad to know that it closed, and I am so elated that it will reopen so that other people will enjoy its beauty. We so loved the great atmosphere of the restaurant as well.

  20. Cathy in St. Lou says:

I well remember a very romantic 5th anniversary there – dinner, drinks at the F&H and a romantic room to cap off a wonderful memory.

My husband and I were married in the Bathe Suite on 10/10/10 and then spent the next night in Sherwood’s Forrest Suite. We had a lovely time and the staff was great. Though I wanted to spend the night in the other suites I am looking forward to the new themed suites that you will be offering. We are planning to spend the weekend there for our first anniversary and every anniversary there after. Thank you for keeping with the themed suite tradition of the Cheshire Lodge, I would have been disappointed if you hadn’t .

  25. Beth says:

I first met my husband here in the early 70′s, spent our wedding night here in ’89, and then many, many nights more as the Cheshire was near and dear to our hearts. I love this place. What a gem!

Can’t wait for the reopening of The Cheshire! I remember taking the double-decker bus from the hotel to the Muny with my grandfather. Now I have kids of my own and we plan to visit for a “stay-cation”!
