Shawn Stromberg’s Story
My wife, Sandra, and I spent our wedding night enjoying the Captain’s Quarters in 2004. Six months later, I learned I had testicular cancer. Being newly married, caught up in the thrill and romance of being “newlyweds,” and not knowing just what the outcome would be, we vowed to create as many special moments as possible no matter what. Wonderfully, the Cheshire practice of rewarding newlyweds who stayed in a Fantasy Suite with a free night’s stay the next year allowed us to return on our first anniversary, which was very special, particularly given what we’d experienced so early in our life together. That first anniversary was such a memorable and treasured time that we promised to return to the Cheshire on EVERY anniversary, which we have done. Thank God, my cancer is gone, and this November, we will again return for a precious, nostalgic, eighth stay at the Cheshire. Each time we come back, it seems impossible that another year has passed, but that only makes every stay more joyful because it feels as though we are once again back on that first night. We cannot imagine staying anywhere else to celebrate the day we wed and we’re excited to learn of the restorations and upgrades made to “our” special place. We are always uplifted by November’s approach, as it signals our pending Cheshire excursion, but this year we have even more reason to eagerly anticipate the trip, as we know it will be fun to see how the changes have taken place. No doubt they will only add to future memories and make the Cheshire even more a treasure for us. Thank you.
